Having additional income seems to be the norm of today’s society. The cost of living is steadily increasing and with this we must find creative ways to compensate for the difference. The importance of having a side hustle should be something to think about. Whether you are trying to save up money for the future, pay off monthly bills, or even just to have a few spare dollars on hand, a side hustle will definitely be great for anyone with the extra time.
Pros and cons of having a side hustle
There are definitely more pros than cons to having your own side hustle. Some pros you should consider are: having additional income, having more money to save, flexibility, becoming your own boss, networking, paying off bills, and so many more. Some cons you may encounter are: brainstorming, long hours, advertising, cost of startup, finding customers, or even minor setbacks. Besides the fact of the cons listed, I still highly recommend anyone to have a side hustle. The possibilities are literally endless!
He who is not courageous enough to take risks will accomplish nothing in life.
– Muhammad Ali
The fact of the matter is, it is too easy to begin working for yourself with a side hustle or even developing it into your full time income. You must find your niche and your target customer. Once you have those two, then the rest is easy. For example, if you like to focus on healthy eating, you could make up different recipes and meal preps for people to follow. Take pictures of the final product, and post them on your social media accounts (with ample hashtags). Get your friends and family to try out some of your recipes and have them repost/share your work. Secure the bag!
Things you may need to start your side hustle
To begin, you must have a way to contact your customers. This means you need to have a computer or laptop, some form of email or phone number, and even a website for your side hustle. I recently found out that you can use your own cell phone and get a Google phone number added onto your phone for free. This number would allow your customers to reach out to you on your phone without them having your personal number. I love this idea because you don’t have to waste money on an extra phone or have to pay for an extra phone line. This also gives you privacy on your own phone.
If you are a crafter, you would most likely need to have products on deck for your customers to purchase immediately. Preorders are also a good way to showcase some of your products before they are ready to ship out. Set deadlines for these preorders and make sure you stick to them.
