The Black Dollar holds such a magnificent importance and power! We are the #1 race group that spends more than any other race group. But that doesn’t correlate the same when we are talking about the Black community. Simply put, we don’t invest our dollars into our community as much as we should. According to author Brooke Stephens’ book Talking Dollars and Making Sense: A Wealth Building Guide for African-Americans, the Black dollar circulates for only 6 hours within the Black community while other race groups’ average dollar circulates much longer.
Together, lets vow to celebrate, encourage, shout out, praise, share, invest, remain consistent with, loyal to, and cherish Black Owned Businesses. Not only for the month of February when America celebrates Black History Month, but everyday. Pick 1 or more Black Owned Businesses to use everyday.

The posts’ success in terms of engagement wasn’t the deciding factor, but rather, how much disparity there would be between the commenters although on the surface, one would not see how such similar people could see situations so differently.

#97 Pat McGrath Labs This is the golden age of makeup. PAT McGRATH LABS is my Golden Revolution. The entire planet is just as cosmetics obsessed as I’ve always been. Makeup is a movement. Makeup is mesmerizing. Makeup is major. Mantra-esque, three words have repeated over and over in my mind ever since I was young. Obsession. Inspiration. Addiction. Those words became my guiding principles, my manifesto as I brought this brand to life . #100 Lip Bar In 2012, I launched The Lip Bar because I was incredibly frustrated with the beauty industry. I had so many questions. Why were most cosmetics filled with unnecessary chemicals? Why did lipsticks only come in a limited range of colors? And more importantly, why was the depiction of beauty so damn linear? I always tell people, I’m not passionate about makeup. I’m a minimalist girl who believes a pop of color on the lips will give you enough confidence to take on the day and kick its ass! However, I am passionate about creating an inclusive narrative on what beauty is and reminding women that we don’t have to settle for anything.

It was important to me that I found a method which was accessible and tailored to the culture of African people, and I found this in Kemetic Yoga. In 2013, I earned my certification to teach and within weeks I opened a space for the community of Atlanta to connect and gain self-knowledge through this African healing art.

#190 The Birthday Lifestyle The Birthday Lifestyle was born out of something most will consider cliché: Live your life to the fullest…Daily. However, this took on a new meaning for me when within 6 months, I was hospitalized twice for two weeks nearly dying and in between those two my mother had a massive stroke and almost died. 2014 changed the direction of my life in 3 short moments. Every single moment after those moments has been a blessing and not guaranteed.
#191 Curl Mix CurlMix started as a Do It Yourself subscription box. We would send you the materials to make your own hair products. Cool right?! Our recipes weren’t just fun, they actually worked. Then our CurlMixers told us that they wanted their favorite boxes turned into a hair care line that was ready to use. We asked if they wanted multiple fragrances to choose from too.
#192 Dapper Black BoxOur primary mission is to encourage investment into the black economy. While there are several subscription boxes out there, we noticed that brands from black-owned businesses were dramatically underrepresented. We understand that finding black-owned businesses has turned into an industry all its own. The process can be time-consuming and discouraging. However, we believe the outcome—supporting a black-owned business—is worth the investment.

#193 I Don’t Do Clubs Clubs are hot, people step on your feet, and spill overpriced drinks on your clothes (or on your head if you’re short like me). And let’s not forget the random men grabbing your a** as you and your friends hold hands just to make it to the restroom. Nope, I’m good! Don’t get me wrong, I like to dress-up, sip cocktails, and meet interesting people…just in a more controlled setting. Yeah, I’m a bit of a control freak. As such, when my awesome friends are looking to run the town, they call me! I know with whom, doing what, and where we need to be.
