I dragged my feet, crossed my arms, and pouted! I do NOT have time to go back to school! Like really…I have a full time job, a toddler that thinks he is Usain Bolt, and a crazy daily commute. I have to worry about getting dinner ready, homework, bath time, story time, bedtime, playdates, spring sports, errands, errands, errands. Where is this extra time?
Well guess what? With life changes, sometimes you have to MAKE the time for the things you want. Don’t get me wrong, I love my job with no if’s and’s or but’s about it. I have been in my line of work for a little over 13 years but this year is the year of change, so I decided to change my career field as well.
Since I started this blog, I’ve had a small obsession with technology and coding. On the back end, this blog itself is made up of a bunch of codes. This small obsession has turned into something that I just have to know more about. Technology is ruling the world and I want to be included in that.
ORGANIZATION
Before I became a parent, I was the most organized person I knew. I had all of my timing down packed! Everything was written down in my planner, bills were filed away in my file cabinet, and the house was spotless. Now, as a 5 year seasoned parent, things are not the same as they once were. It seems as though time isn’t on my side and everything has a crazy due date. I really just need another me to do all of the housework, run my errands, and have dinner ready when I get home from work…then we can morphed back together.
My organization has been completely off! But you know what? I will get this thing all the way together. Some key things I will incorporate into my busy life, is a (1) planner. I find life satisfying when I can cross things off my list after I have completed them..in order of course. (2) Sticky notes at my desk are a must! My forgetful mind needs that extra reminder and the sticky notes does just the trick. (3) Reduce the clutter. I am totally guilty of holding on to things for long periods of time. Nine times out of ten, I really don’t need that mess. I find that having an organized system helps me to declutter my mind and keeps things in order.
patience
If you have decided to go back to school as a busy parent, there are some things you must know about patience. You need to know that this road will be tough! Your multi-tasking will need to be in full overdrive, and you need to have some patience. Things take time to work itself out, and this may be one of them.
Stay focused
Going back to school usually entails one to be in a committed relationship with that institution. Ranging from a few months to a few years! Set your sights on what is most important and remain focused on your goal of completing your tasks…one task at a time.
All in all, you can do this! I can do this! Going back to school may not be for everyone, but for those who trust in the power of knowledge must stay on that path. Good things comes to those who wait…and put in the work 🙂
